Causes of Stuttering
Stuttering can be a very embarrassing speech disorder when the normal flow of speech is disrupted by frequent repetitions or of speech sounds, syllables or words. Sometimes an individual is unable get a word out. Certain situations, like speaking in front of a group of people can be very hard or even impossible. Some individuals who stutter even have a hard time talking on the telephone.
What are the causes of stuttering?
Stuttering is believed by Scientists to have a variety of causes. It is thought that many forms of stuttering are based on genetics.

The most common causes of stuttering is thought to be developmental, it starts occurring in children who are in the beginning process of developing speech and language. This
type of stuttering occurs when a child’s speech and language abilities are not able to meet the childs verbal demands.
Stuttering happens when the child has a difficulty finding the correct word. Developmental stuttering is usually outgrown.
Neurogenic is another common form of stuttering, neurogenic is a disorders of the brain and nerves or muscles and happens when signal between the two are disrupted. In neurogenic stuttering, the seems to be unable to coordinate the different speech mechanism components.
Stroke or other types of brain injury can also be one of the causes of the neurogenic type of stuttering. Other causes are classified as psychogenic or mental activity of the brain such as thought and reasoning. It was thought at one time the major causes of stuttering was of the psychogenic type, it is now known to account for only a very small number of the individuals who stutter.
Stress can also be a big factor in the causes of stuttering, and it a well established fact that individuals who experience severe stress or depression and anguish are more likely to experience this disorder. Why people stutter is still being studied, and new treatments are being developed.
